The pool site plan counties ask for: pool and deck outline, distances to lot lines and the house, and the safety barrier with its gates.
- Permit needed?
- Yes, almost everywhere, for in-ground pools and most above-ground pools and spas.

- Building department, sometimes your HOA

What a Pool Permit Asks For
Counties don’t all ask for the same drawings. This is what they usually want for a pool; we confirm your county’s list in the quote.

Pool permit FAQ
Pool Permit Questions
Short answers to what people ask before ordering. Ask anything else in your quote request.
Get Price QuoteDo I need a permit for a pool?
Almost always for in-ground pools, and usually for above-ground pools and hot tubs deeper than about 24 inches. Your county sets the limit.
How far from the property line does a pool need to be?
Commonly 5 to 10 feet from side and rear lines, but it depends on your zoning. We draw your lot’s setbacks.
What is a pool barrier?
A fence or wall at least 4 feet high around the pool, with self-closing, self-latching gates, required by most codes to keep children out.
Does my pool contractor’s drawing count?
It shows the pool, not your lot. Most counties also want a site plan with distances, which is what we draw.
