What a Driveway Permit Asks For

Counties don’t all ask for the same drawings. This is what they usually want for a driveway; we confirm your county’s list in the quote.

Do I need a permit for a driveway?

Often for a new driveway, widening, or a new curb cut onto the street. Resurfacing an existing driveway usually doesn’t.

What is impervious area?

Hard surfaces water can’t soak into, like paving and roofs. Many counties limit how much of a lot can be impervious.

Who approves the curb cut?

Usually your city’s public works department or the state road authority, separately from the building permit.

Do pavers count as impervious?

Standard pavers usually do; permeable pavers may count less. It depends on your county.
